M65 Jacke

The M-65 Jacket (also known as the M-1965 Field Jacket) gets its name from the year it was introduced. It was initially designed for the U.S. military under the MIL-C-43455J standard to replace the M-1951 field jacket.

The M-65 was widely used by U.S. Forces during the Vietnam War, where it proved invaluable to troops serving in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam, keeping soldiers warm in the cool weather following monsoon rains. Subsequently, it became standard issue for American troops in various other conflicts worldwide.

Originally introduced in olive green, the jacket has also made notable appearances in several films:

• 'Rocky Balboa' (Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa)

Finding your size

A field jacket is meant to be worn over a shirt or a sweater, so the garment is wider than your body. The table below already accounts for that, so match your own chest to the Fits chest column.

How to measure your chest. Standing, wearing only a t-shirt, run a tape around your torso at armpit level, across the fullest part. Keep the tape level across your back and breathe normally.

How to check against a jacket you already own. Lay it flat and zipped, measure straight across from armpit to armpit, and double it. Compare that number to the Garment chest column.

Between two sizes, take the larger one. If you plan to wear it over a thick hoodie in winter, size up even if you fall inside the range.

The sleeve is long by design, the way the original was drawn, and the cuff adjusts so you can set the length at your wrist.
