Open Road Leather Crossbody Bag

There are bags that are backpacks in disguise and bags that are an extra pocket. The Open Road bag is the second kind: the size of a book, with what you need to leave the house and nothing more. Phone, wallet, keys, a notebook, a small tablet. It goes across the chest or over the shoulder, and disappears under an open jacket.

The leather is full grain cowhide with a crazy horse finish: the hide gets wax on the surface, and every fold and every scratch lightens the spot and leaves its mark. It is the leather that arrives looking used and, in a year, looks ten years old. Rub it with your hand and the mark darkens back.

The flap and the magnetic snaps

The flap covers the whole front and closes on two magnetic snaps, one at each end. It opens with one hand, no buckle to find, and closes on its own when you let go. Inside the flap the leather is left raw, unfinished, which is how you see the hide is full grain.

The phone pocket

On the back, a pocket with a metal zipper and a leather pull, the size of a large phone (up to 6.7 in). It is the pocket you open on the bus without opening the bag. Inside, the main compartment has a second zippered pocket for ID and cards.

Strap and hardware

The strap is the same leather, with an antiqued brass buckle and a stitched keeper. It adjusts from shoulder to crossbody. All the hardware is brass, no chrome: it darkens along with the leather.

With a leather jacket, with the Dockworker shirt, with a tee in summer. It is the bag for the man who does not like bags: small, no logo, better the more it takes.
