Mariniere Striped Long Sleeve Tee

The sailor stripe started as a uniform: the French Navy adopted the striped knit in the 19th century and the piece never left circulation. The most repeated explanation is that the stripes made it easier to spot a man overboard. There is no document to prove it, but the pattern stayed, left the deck and became one of the few prints that crosses every decade without aging.

This is a long sleeve mariniere in washed cotton at 230 gsm (6.8 oz). The number matters: a regular tee sits between 150 and 180 gsm, so this one has almost a third more fabric. It hangs with weight, does not cling to the body and does not show what is underneath. The wash is already done, so it feels soft from the first wear.

The ground is natural, not white

The background of all five options is a warm natural, measured at #E2DBD1. It is a difference you can see: optical white makes the piece look like a basic multipack tee, while the natural tone pulls the stripe toward the old uniform it came from.

Two navies, two different pieces

The blue is exactly the same in both. What changes is the stripe proportion, and that changes the whole piece. In the Narrow Stripe the navy takes about 38% of the fabric, so the natural ground leads and the result is lighter and quieter. In the Wide Stripe the navy takes about 61%, in full bands, and the tee reads as navy.

Crew neck with a firm rib

The neck is round, low and finished with a natural rib in the same tone as the ground. It is the first part to fail on a cheap tee, because it stretches and never comes back. Here it has body and a reinforced neck band.

Size chart

Measure around your chest at the fullest point and pick by the "Fits chest" column. The shoulder is dropped on purpose, so the seam sits a little below the joint. Between two sizes, the larger one gives a looser drape. The Label column shows the size printed inside the garment.

Care

• Machine wash cold, inside out, with similar colors
• Do not bleach
• Tumble dry low only, or dry in the shade
• Iron on medium heat, avoiding the neck rib
• The knit is pre washed, so shrinkage on the first wash is small
