Highland Waxed Jacket

In the Scottish Highlands, the waxed field jacket was born for one thing: to take drizzle, wind and brush without asking permission. The Highland Waxed Jacket carries that code: a corduroy collar, a tartan lining, a brass YKK ring-pull zipper under a snap-button storm flap and four pockets (two on the chest, two bellows pockets below).

You choose the finish: waxed (a wax treatment that repels water and picks up marks of use over time, the charm of the piece) or unwaxed, same cut and same lining, in clean cotton, lighter and maintenance-free.

Five unwaxed colors: Khaki, Army Green, Brown, Dark Green and Navy. And three waxed: Dark Green Waxed, Coffee Waxed and Navy Waxed.

On the body

A length that covers the hips and a cut that takes a layer underneath: a flannel shirt, a sweatshirt or a knit.

Tartan lining

Opening the jacket is half the pleasure: the tartan plaid lining covers the whole body and the sleeves, and the military-style inner label signs the piece.

Corduroy collar

The corduroy collar is the signature of the British field jacket: soft on the neck, with wales that contrast with the smooth finish of the body.

Brass YKK zipper

A brass YKK zipper with a ring pull (easy to open even with gloves on), protected by the snap-button storm flap.

Ribbed inner cuff

Inside the cuff there is a ribbed storm cuff that seals out the wind and keeps the sleeve in place, the detail that separates a field jacket from a fashion jacket.

Size chart

The sizes below were set by the real measurements of the garment, not by the label inside it. Choose by your chest measurement.

Fits chest is your body measurement. Garment chest is the jacket measured open, armpit to armpit and doubled, with a 2 to 3 cm (about 1 in) tolerance. The sleeve is measured from the center of the back to the cuff. The Label column is the size printed on the garment, for recognizing the package; it runs larger than the US letter. Since this is a jacket to wear over layers, between two sizes go with the larger one.

Care

Waxed version:

• Do not machine wash and do not tumble dry; the wax is lost
• Wipe with a cloth and cold water, no soap
• Re-wax from time to time with a wax made for waxed cotton

Unwaxed version:

• Hand wash or delicate cycle, cold water
• Dry in the shade

Both: do not bleach, and store hung in a well-ventilated place. Marks and uneven sheen on the waxed version are characteristics of the finish, not defects.
