Tailored Pleated Corduroy Trousers

The front pleat is tailoring vocabulary. It was born to give the body room without widening the waist, and for decades it was what set dress trousers apart from work pants. The Tailored Pleated Trousers take that detail and build it, on purpose, in the wrong cloth: heavyweight corduroy, the cotton of people who work.

That mix is what the piece delivers. From a distance the silhouette is pure tailoring: waist at the right height, straight leg, cuffed hem with enough weight to fall on its own. Up close the fabric tells another story, with a wide wale and a washed finish that already looks like it has been lived in.

The double pleats run from the waistband and open room through the thigh. That is what keeps the trousers comfortable when you sit, with no elastic and no stretch fiber.

Heavy corduroy, washed before it reaches you

Pure cotton, wide wale and a high fabric weight: the corduroy here has enough structure to hold a straight drape instead of clinging to the leg. The finish is garment washed, so the color already has the variation of a worn piece and the fabric is already soft.

Wide wale up close, and the cuffed hem that gives the drape its weight. With wear the ridges lighten at the tips and the trousers become yours.

Turn a pocket inside out and the best part of the piece shows up: the pocket bag is printed with a reproduction of a mid-century American catalog ad, two fellows in jackets and the line "know what you buy". It is the kind of detail nobody sees while you are dressed and that you notice every time you put a hand in your pocket.
