In the 70s road running became a habit and the training shoe left the track for the sidewalk. The design that survived from that time is this one: low profile, slightly upturned toe, suede body and stripes stitched on the side to hold the foot in place. It is not a modern performance shoe, it is the shape that worked before the technology came in, and that is still the easiest to wear with chinos, jeans or shorts.

Suede upper of the 70s Marathon sneaker up close

The body is suede, with the slightly porous surface that light reveals up close. The side stripes and the toe overlay are smooth material, stitched on top and not glued. The collar and tongue carry mesh, and the inside lining is textile.

Rubber sole and foam midsole of the sneaker

The sole is rubber, with a block traction pattern that climbs the side of the toe. The midsole is foam, and the wavy line running along the side is the division between the two layers.

Reinforced heel counter and midsole of the 70s Marathon sneaker

The heel has a reinforced counter, the rigid piece that holds the foot from behind and keeps the back of the shoe from collapsing with wear. The insole is removable.

Foot length, not shoe length. If your foot falls between two sizes, take the larger one. The Label column shows the EU number printed inside the shoe, which follows the maker's scale and does not match US sizing. Always use the chart above.

Care

Suede is cleaned dry, with a soft bristle brush, always in the direction of the nap. Water marks brush out after the leather dries on its own, away from the sun and any heat source. Do not machine wash.
