Bronze Pocket Watch Keychain

Before the wristwatch, the time rode in the vest pocket, on a chain. The Pocket Watch Keychain takes that idea and shrinks it to the size of a key ring: a miniature pocket watch with a rectangular case in antiqued bronze finish, held by a braided leather strap and a ring.

The detail nobody expects on a keychain: there are two dials, each with its own quartz movement. The top one, in Roman numerals, keeps your local time. The bottom one, in Arabic numerals, keeps the time wherever you want: the time zone of someone far away, the daylight saving your town does not have, or simply the right time when the top one stops. Two independent settings, two crowns.

Antiqued bronze and braided leather

The case has a bronze finish, darkened in the grooves and lighter on the edges, the tone of metal that has passed through many hands. The strap is dark leather, braided and knotted on itself, the way you lash a tool handle. The ring is wide enough for house and car keys.

On the back, the case back is polished steel, plain. It is where a jeweler's engraving sits well, if you want to give it with a name or a date.

Size

4.6 in (118 mm) from the ring to the base of the watch; the case is 1.6 in (41.6 mm) tall. It fits in a trouser pocket with the keys without adding bulk, and it is big enough to read the time without taking it off the ring.

• The antiqued bronze is a finish, not rust; clean only with a dry cloth, no polish, or it lightens
• The leather darkens with use; if it gets wet, dry in the shade
